Home Health Insurance

What Is Home Health Insurance?

Home health care covers medical services provided in a person’s home when they’re recovering from an illness, injury, or surgery. Key point: It’s medical care, not custodial or long-term care.

Covered services usually involve skilled care:

  • Skilled nursing (wound care, injections, IVs)

  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy

Home health does NOT include 24/7 care, custodial care, or homemaker services.

How Medicare Covers Home Health Medicare covers home health under Part A and/or Part B if conditions are met: doctor certifies the need, patient is homebound, care is intermittent, and services are from a Medicare-certified agency.

  • $0 for Services: Medicare covers home health services at no cost to you.

  • 20% for Equipment: Coinsurance applies for durable medical equipment (DME).

  • Recovery Focused: Goal is helping you heal at home after illness or surgery.

Home Health vs Long-Term Care: Home health helps you heal at home (short-term, medical, Medicare-covered). Long-term care helps you live at home (ongoing, custodial, NOT covered by Medicare).

At Seniors Insurance Hub, we believe your health coverage should come with financial predictability. That’s why we specialize in Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plans. These “all-in-one” plans replace open-ended costs with fixed, manageable copays, so you always know what to expect.

Other Insurance Coverage Options

Understanding your home health coverage options helps ensure you get the care you need. Different insurance types cover different aspects of in-home care.

  • Medicare Advantage: Must cover home health; specific rules may vary by plan.

  • Dental, Vision, & Hearing: Routine cleanings, eye exams, and hearing aids are often included.

  • Fitness & Wellness: Many plans offer gym memberships and over-the-counter allowances.
